Winners of the International Chili Society – The Breeze-Courier

TAYLORVILLE – The winners were announced late Sunday afternoon on the International Chilli Society‘s second judging day, at the 36th Annual Grand Taylorville Chamber of Commerce Chillifest.

In the red chili evaluation, first place was won by Lloyd Weir of Bloomington, Illinois, who won $ 300 and qualifies to cook in the world championship. Second place went to Jeff Netser of Indiana, who won $ 100, while third went to Preston Shaw of Tennessee who won $ 90.

In the homemade chili evaluation, first place went to Julie Netser of Indiana, who won $ 200 and qualifies to cook at the World Championship. Second place went to Lorre Reents, Chief Cook of ICS, of Springfield, Illinois, who won $ 100, and third place went to Jess Curtin of Stonington, Illinois, who won $ 90.

In Sunday’s Verde Judgment at the Greater Taylorville Chamber Chillifest, first place went to Henry Stephens of Texas, who won $ 175 and qualifies to cook at the World Championship. Second place went to Julie Netser from Indiana, who won $ 75, and third place went to Tonya Jester from Indiana, who won $ 50.

In salsa judging, first place was won by Helen McCauley of Mississippi, who won $ 100 and qualifies to cook at the World Championship. Second place went to Darin Jester of Indiana, who won $ 75, and third place went to Chrissy Atwood of Indiana, who won $ 25.

Chili cooks from 8 states participated in the International Chilli Society’s 2 Days of Cooking Preparation at the Greater Taylorville Chamber Chillifest.
