USA’s Christian Pulisic to miss upcoming friendlies with injury

DORTMUND, Germany – Borussia Dortmund midfielder Christian Pulisic will be unable to play for the United States in the upcoming friendlies against Colombia and Peru due to an injury, sources have told ESPN FC.

Pulisic, who missed Dortmund’s Champions League win over Monaco on Wednesday, could still travel for friendlies next week if the United States requests it.

Dortmund said ahead of the game that the midfielder had torn fibers in a calf muscle and would also miss the Bundesliga game against Augsburg on Saturday.

Pulisic missed the friendlies against Brazil and Mexico in September with injury and last played for the United States against Bolivia in May.

The United States will face Colombia on October 11 in Tampa, Florida, and Peru on October 16 in East Hartford, Connecticut.

Meanwhile, coach Lucien Favre said midfielder Jadon Sancho “is doing well” and was cleared to play against Augsburg after leaving the 3-0 win on Wednesday with a right thigh injury.

Sancho, who got his first call for England on Thursday, placed Jacob Bruun Larsen for the opening goal in Dortmund’s 3-0 win before being substituted in the 84th minute.

Dortmund, still unbeaten in all competitions this season, are looking to maintain their Bundesliga lead ahead of the international break.

Zorc said captain Marco Reus, who has scored six goals and six assists in nine appearances, played a big part in Dortmund’s early success.

“We are happy that he is healthy for a longer period now,” Zorc said. “He’s not a big mouth, but he’s just setting an example on the pitch – and he can always step up his game in the last 15 minutes. I think that was the right choice to make him captain. [at the start of this season]. “
