As a mother, the well-being and education of our children are at the heart of the concerns.
Even before the pandemic, our schools were falling behind. Now we have seen a disturbing pattern where Washington politics and special interest groups are placed above the needs of students.
An entire generation of children has lost a year of face-to-face learning. We have seen evidence that teacher unions are in bed with the Biden administration, agreeing to keep schools closed. And more and more we see the left pushing its radical agenda through critical race theory that infiltrates school systems and turns schools into centers of left indoctrination.
Instead of teaching the facts of history – good and bad – Critical Race Theory promotes a biased view of America through a racial and ideological lens. While we certainly need to teach empathy and how we can learn and grow as a nation, Critical Race Theory seeks to fan racial flames by creating a state of perpetual division among neighbors, friends, and communities.
While traveling in Ohio, I hear moms and dads with children of all ages say that this “awakened” education program is a major concern.
I have heard from mothers who are upset that their second grader is forced to paint themselves as a different race and take classes on how to protest.
I have heard from parents who are angry that their school district has set up gender-neutral toilets without even a message from their school board.
I’ve heard from moms who were appalled that an unaccredited “teacher” organized a week-long seminar on racial and transgender issues for their elementary school children, without ever notifying parents. And all over Ohio, I hear conservative students saying they need to suppress their opinions or that they will get a bad grade from their liberal professors.
President Donald Trump was right when he said that a “leftist cultural revolution” was taking place in our schools, and he rightly issued an executive order banning critical race theory.
Sadly, President Joe Biden rescinded this order on his first day in office and proposed a rule that would update all American history programs to include Project 1619.
Project 1619 and Critical Race Theory are attempts by the radical left to inject socialism into all aspects of our lives. I believe moms, dads and teachers know what’s best for our kids in the classroom – not the partisan propagandists pushing a political agenda.
We should educate and prepare the next generation of astronauts, manufacturers and engineers – without using tax dollars to train the next generation of social justice activists. This is exactly what China wants – for our schools to focus on “awakened” political correctness rather than teaching math and science.
Change starts at the grassroots, which is why I launched a listening tour through Ohio on this important issue to hear from parents concerned about what is going on behind classroom doors. Parents are already fighting this Liberal program by running for their school board, using public record requests and demanding transparency. One thing is for sure: never underestimate the power of horny moms and dads.
I believe America is the greatest country in the world that empowers people of all races, colors, and creeds to achieve their own American dream. This is the America that I want to teach our children, and the America that I will fight for in the United States Senate.
