Maria Brea and Joshua Blue conduct the Oratorio Society of New York’s Messiah

The Oratorio Society of New York will present its 148th performance of Handel’s Messiah in time for the holiday season.

The show, which is scheduled for December 19, 2022, will be performed at the Stern Auditorium/Perelman Stage at Carnegie Hall. This year’s performance includes soloists soprano Maria Brea, contralto Heather Petrie, tenor Joshua Blue and baritone Jesse Blumberg, as well as the Society Orchestra.

Messiah is a holiday tradition for OSNY performing the work since 1874. OSNY has never missed an annual Messiah performance, having staged a digital performance in 2020 and 2021, making a triumphant return to Carnegie Hall with their annual performance.

In a statement, Kent Tritle said, “I am thrilled to lead the Oratorio Society of New York in this year’s performance of Handel’s Messiah! We have successfully continued our unbroken tradition of presenting the Messiah over the past few years, and this year’s performance will be particularly poignant as we return to presenting the three monumental parts of this beloved work! While last year we featured a scaled-down Messiah, due to site protocols and concerns over the Omicron virus outbreak, this year we plan to feature the fuller version so beloved by New York audiences.
