Latest transfer from Preston North End as ex-Burnley defender ‘followed’

The January transfer window is open and Preston North End are unlikely to be too busy, but may well free up space in the squad in order to bring in players.

Here’s a drop-down list of all the PNEs they’ve linked to so far this month.

Ali Koiki

Football Insider claims North End are watching Northampton Town left-back Ali Koiki.

League One promotion hopefuls Sheffield Wednesday and Sunderland have also been linked with PNE reportedly ‘following Koiki before his contract expires in the summer’.

Playing at League Two level, it would be a big leap to the Championship for the 22-year-old former Burnley.

Jake Bidwell

PNE are ‘monitoring Bidwell’s situation’ amid his contract stalemate with Swansea City, according to our colleagues at WalesOnline.

North End are believed to be looking to bolster their options at left-back, but Birmingham City appear to be leading the race for Bidwell.

He’s a player the Lilywhites have watched in previous windows, while at QPR.

BirminghamLive report that the Blues will be stepping up their interest in the full-back, with a cut-price deal in sight given his expiring deal at Liberty Stadium.

Bidwell seems unlikely to sign new terms with the Swans.

Cameron Archer

According to the Daily Mail, the 20-year-old is wanted on loan by PNE with Derby County and several League One clubs, including Sunderland.

However, it is reported that Villa are keen to keep Archer given that Wesley and Keinan Davis have already left on loan this month.

Villa boss Steven Gerrard, a good friend of PNE manager Ryan Lowe, would like to keep Archer on board as a replacement for Ollie Watkins and Danny Ings – who are both currently starting.

Tom Pearce

Left-back is believed to be an identified target position and links to Wigan Athletic’s Tom Pearce emerged over the weekend – the player profile you’d expect North End to watch.

The Wigan ace has excelled under Leam Richardson this season, but with the Latics forging a promising promotion bid, Pearce is set to demand a significant fee for his services.

Jack Iredale

Cambridge United’s Jack Iredale has been pushed to the North End as a potential solution to their left-back void, but it is understood other options are being considered.

The 25-year-old featured in the biggest storyline of the FA Cup weekend as Mark Bonner’s side beat Newcastle United at St James’ Park, with Iredale integral to the U’s success so far this campaign.

Ryan Longman

Reports have indicated Brighton are considering recalling Longman from his season-long loan with Hull City with a view to selling him permanently, prompting interest from several Championship sides.

PNE are believed to be among them, as are play-off contenders Huddersfield Town and Nottingham Forest.

A beacon of versatility, Longman is primarily a midfielder but can operate at full back and in attack.

Ryan Hardy

A Football League World report claimed Lowe is watching Plymouth Argyle’s Ryan Hardie during the current window.

Hardie was a Lowe signing from Home Park in January 2020, initially on loan from Blackpool before making the move permanent earlier this year. The striker is under contract with the Pilgrims until 2023.

Bambo Diaby

Preston North End will soon have a decision to make on trials defender Bambo Diaby.

As first reported by LancsLive in December, PNE took the former Barnsley man on board and have had him training with them ever since.

Diaby trained at Euxton on Saturday before the team traveled to Cardiff for Sunday’s FA Cup clash – the players were absent on Monday.

But this week is important for the 24-year-old, given that his football ban expires on Sunday, January 16. From then on, he can legally play and sign for any professional club.

Stuart Findlay

According to Football Insider, PNE are interested in signing Philadelphia Union defender Stuart Findlay.

Blackpool are also reportedly interested in the former Kilmarnock man, who is said to be eager to return to the UK after an unsuccessful spell in MLS so far.

Tom Flanagan

Football Insider reports that PNE, along with Middlesbrough and Bristol City, are “monitoring the situation”.

LancsLive are unaware of any interest from North End and any move for the 29-year-old Sunderland man seems unlikely with PNE well supplied in defence.

Rarmani Edmonds-Green

Rarmani Edmonds-Green in action for Rotherham

Football Insider claim Huddersfield Town are preparing for January offers and a six-figure offer could be enough to land Rarmani Edmonds-Green, while The Sun have placed a £500,000 price tag on the player.

He is currently on loan at Rotherham in League One, where he is helping the Millers mount a promotion charge.

Huddersfield have a contract option on the 22-year-old to extend his contract beyond the summer until 2022.

Georgia Kelly

The striker was prolific in his native Ireland and was the league’s top scorer last season with 26 goals for the Bohemians.

He is set to move to England and has been linked with the North End, with League One promotion chasers Wigan Athletic and Sunderland.

PNE are used to looking for Irish signings but a move for the 25-year-old is a long shot despite his impressive goalscoring record.
