Honor Society Book Drive Surpasses Target | Lifestyles

Lakeview High School (LHS) Prin. Lane Stratton informed the Lake County School District # 7 (LCSD # 7) Board of Trustees of the LHS Honor Society Book Drive at their meeting on Wednesday, May 12.

Stratton said the book drive has already brought 54 new books to the library – the original target was 30. He told the LHS Honor Society that was a low number and they would likely receive more.

“Packages from Amazon arrive in the mail and I think we will receive packages until the end of the school year. The book drive is still ongoing and I think we can reach 100 new books by the end of the school year, ”Stratton told the LCSD # 7 board of directors.

The Honor Society is organizing the book drive to help refresh the collection at the LHS Library; they hope not only to make it an annual event, but also to expand and support elementary school libraries.

The LHS Honor Society worked with LHS School Librarian Susan Frank to compile an Amazon Wish List to replace books and add new titles to the catalog. The Honor Society conducted a survey of the student body to find out what types of books they would like to see in the library, and based on this information, the Wish List on Amazon has been updated.

The results of the survey indicate that students are looking for mystery, adventure, fantasy and history books. Students also wanted more books from James Patterson, Rick Riordan, and Stephen King.

People can still buy books off the Amazon Wish List by following these instructions: amazon.com and log into your personal account. Type in the search bar “Personalized gift list”. With the “Amazon Personalized Gift List” in bold, scroll directly below and select “Find List”. Type in the search field “Honor Society”. Click on the “LHS / DMS” book reader. Select the book you want to buy for the library.
