Police and BNP activists clashed this morning outside the party’s headquarters in Nayapaltan in Dhaka.
At least 30 BNP men were arrested on the spot, said Salahuddin Mia, head of the Paltan police station.
Witnesses said the clash ensued after BNP men threw shards of bricks at police who responded by loading batons.
The BNP was to organize a protest program against community attacks across the country during the Durga Puja celebration.

Party leaders claimed that the government had failed to protect the country’s communal harmony.
But in the morning, BNP General Secretary Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir canceled the protest program and called on party activists to leave Nayapaltan.
