Candy Apples for the Siouxland Humane Society

SIOUX CITY (KTIV) — The Siouxland Humane Society is once again selling handmade double chocolate caramel apples. Volunteers are hard at work assembling the treats this week.

This is a fundraiser to help pay for their pet care costs.

“We receive thousands of animals every year and we receive no outside funding. So no state, local, or federal money, so fundraising and private donations are how we operate,” said Missie Fischer, director of development for the Siouxland Humane Society.

Dozens of volunteers are gathering at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Sioux City this week to help make more than 7,500 apples. They cost $20 each and there are several ways to buy them.

“We have volunteers selling,” Fischer said. “They can go to our website and order through our website. They can stop by the shelter after next week and see if we have any to buy. Or, if you want them delivered on Valentine’s Day, we’ve partnered with The Market Delivers and if you order through their website and pay a small fee, they’ll deliver them on Valentine’s Day . So there are several ways to get your apples. »

The Humane Society is looking for more volunteers. If you want to help, you can stop by Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church on Wednesday or Thursday. The process begins at 8:30 a.m.
